Who publishes Lanka Rate Board and how its figures are made
Lanka Rate Board is an independent editorial desk. It is not a broker, not an exchange, not a licensed adviser, and it holds no client money. Its subject is one measurement: the rupee price of the dollar and the pawn of eight grams of gold, taken from named public sources and republished with the date and the hour it was read.
What the desk does
The desk reads the Central Bank of Sri Lanka's indicative rate and the buy and sell quotes published by banks, then republishes them with the date and the hour they were read. The Central Bank's indicative rate is the average of the previous business day's interbank deals; the banks' buy and sell quotes are what a customer is offered. The distance between them is what a bank earns on the dollar.
The desk also reads the price of the pawn of eight grams of gold from the sources it names under each table. A pawn is eight grams, the local unit in which Sri Lankan gold is quoted. Every figure is taken from a named public source and linked, so a reader can check the figure at its publisher. The desk does not create any figure, does not estimate, and does not adjust what the source publishes.
What the desk is responsible for
Responsibility sits with the publication's editorial desk: Lanka Rate Board editorial desk. The desk reads the sources, checks the figures against the source page, and answers corrections. A figure that is wrong is corrected and the correction is dated. The desk does not give investment advice, does not recommend any transaction, and does not offer anything for sale.
The figures describe what things cost, not what a reader should do. The desk cannot promise that a bank or a gold dealer will honour any figure at a particular moment, because a published rate is a reference, not an offer. The desk's responsibility ends at republishing the source figure accurately, with its date and hour.
What the site collects
The site has no accounts, no login, no newsletter and no comment form. It sets no cookie of its own, runs no analytics and stores nothing in the reader's browser. The pages are served by a hosting provider which, like any web host, keeps its own technical request logs; the site's publisher does not read a reader's personal data out of them.
Writing to the address on the contact page reaches the desk. Corrections are the reason the address exists: a figure that is wrong is corrected and the correction is dated. The desk does not collect names, email addresses or any other personal details from readers, because there is no form to fill and no account to create.
How the desk earns
The site links to one broker, FxPro, through an affiliate link, and is paid a commission if a reader opens an account there. The reader pays nothing to this site and nothing extra at the broker. This is the only commercial relationship on the site, and it does not affect which figures are published or how they are presented.
The broker's own site is operated by someone else, under its own terms and its own privacy policy, and following the link leaves this site. The desk has no control over what the broker does with a reader's data after that point. The affiliate link is clearly marked on the pages where it appears, and the desk does not earn from any other source.
